Radio Operator aboard B-24H Liberator #42-94949, nicknamed "Full House."

Killed In Action over Puchberg, Austria on bombing mission out of Foggia, Italy to strike the aircraft works in Wels during World War II.

The crew was struck by a bomb dropped from another B-24 above, causing the airplane to disintegrate and they crashed at Puchberg bei Wels, Austria, killing seven crew members. Three survived and were captured by the Germans and held as POWs until the end of the war. MACR 5454.

Historical note: The Americans lost 525 aircraft during World War II, over the area that is defined as Austria today. Most were B-17s and B-24s, that were largely unescorted by fighter aircraft, at a cost of 2,776 airmen killed, with 104 still missing
